a space between

so i here, in a space between sewing, drawing, school, wife-hood and motherhood. this doesn’t happen often these last few months. I stopped working, on a regular basis, at The Vine, and started being “on-call.” I did this with the hopes of focusing more on sewing. We will see…

I am hoping to start an etsy store, but until then everyone can get a hold of me for bag orders by emailing: wordsinbminor@gmail.com

My husband extraordinaire has started writing again, but this time in the form of a blog. We meet and fell in love when we were both poets in Portland, OR.  We had two years of poetry craziness, before we got consumed with making art.  Neither of us have written anything for over a year now, almost three years for me.  So I am really excited that he’s at it again. We moved out of the warehouse and michael set up his studio in our garage.  Hence the name of his blog, of the garage

I start my teaching observation in the next week at the local high school.  This is the same institution that sucked four years from my life.  I will be with my old art teacher, Marty Warren.  I’m excited, but still at little nervous.

Ruminations

My art collective, The Warehouse Artist Collective, is putting on an art weekend at The Vine Wine Bar and Bistro.  Sept. 28th -30th.

The Vine and the Warehouse Artist Collective (W.A.C.) collaboratively present: “Ruminations“…a weekend of art and jazz, featuring the poetry of Sufi poet Rumi.
Friday 8-11 pm Table-side Portraiture:
-Local artists Zack Smithy and Stella Perkins will offer creations of you in charcoal and paint, while you dine, courtesy of The Vine (tips greatly appreciated). Saturday  8-11 pm Live Painting
– Witness the creative process of painter, Michael Franklin, as he begins and completes a painting in one evening.
Sunday 5-7:30 pm Jazz and Art Show (back patio)
-Jazz of St. Louis legends, the Dave Stone Trio. Dave Stone has often been compared to John Coltrane with his strong yet subtle saxophone. “Ruminations” will come to a close with a group showing of art from the artists of the W.A.C., 5-9 pm.

The Warehouse Artist Collective is a Saint Charles born arts movement of young, progressive artists whose purpose is to bring art to the community through a variety of mediums. Reservations for this weekend are strongly encouraged, as seating is limited for all three nights.

art and bags

so i finally uplaoded pictures from the last month…

chris, the owner of picasso’s has given me an old card stand to temporarily use for my bags until i can find a more elegant one. due to my work on my upcoming art show, he is running seriously low. the only one still for sale is the missouri bag.

and this one just sold a few days ago.

i have a growing list of bags to make once my art opening comes and goes. for those of you who can make it. it will be next friday, aug. 3rd at 7pm. picasso’s coffee 101 n main st. st. charles, mo. i’m still working on confirming the music for the night, but hopefully it is the amazing bird baker. i will also have my friend and co-collective artist, stella perkins, hang a few of her pieces. my show will consist of my usual mixed media pieces and also some experimental sewing machine stitched art. here’s a sneak at my first finished piece…

i’m working on a multitude of pieces right now and pray that everything will be ready to hang come friday. love to you all!!!

namesake

the latest of the cuteness.. the fair ophelia

…and her rock…

europe… then the world!!!!

i know this is a little silly, but here is my bag, thanks to Carrey, in Italy… i think it works.

and look how nice it looks with her super sexy-perfect-for-italy-dress.

i have been busy trying to keep cool and keep the kids from being so cranky.  i started waiting tables at a local wine bar/bistro called The Vine. its on the historic main st., here in st. charles.  and i must say that i am impressed.  being from portland, i can appreciate what they are doing and the fact that seasoned curly fries are not on their menu like most of the restaurants.  we have crepes and seared ahi!!!  we have our first wine tasting tomorrow.  we’ll see how things turn out and if 3:00 pm tipsy works out.

next week is my birthday.  stars and stripes forever man,  and hopefully i will be working.  i gots to get paid!  anyways if anyone does wish to persue present giving, then i would love any of these things:

gift cards to: hancocks fabric, forever 21 ( yes i know, stop laughing…), or any craft/art supply store.

otherwise, i love what ever comes from the heart **sigh…sniff**

i haven’t been taking pictures of a few of my bags that i have sold in the last two weeks, so i’m going to try and track some down and post the shots.  i decided to put up my non-coffee sack bags at Picassos’s coffeehouse, 101 N. Main St. St. Charles, just until I have enough time to make enough to have a market booth.

ok so i have to do laundry, more soon.

will i ever keep a bag for myself?

I few months back a friend of mine offered his mother’s collection of fabrics to me and i was estatic to find a lot of amazing stuff from the 1930s and on.  One fabric jumped out and I knew that I had to make myself a bag out of it… so I did last night and like always someone sees it and I end up selling it off.  this time it was to my cousin and she will be sporting a fair ophelia original in italy next week.  here are a few shots of her modeling it.  i think that i still have enough left over to make myself another one and that one will stay in my posession… probally…
